Freemasons Hall

Step through the main door of Freemasons’ Hall, the world-wide home of Scottish Freemasonry situated on Edinburgh’s famous George Street and experience the secret magnificence of what must be one of the Capital City’s most stunning and historical buildings. Built during 1911 – 1912 the current building replaced an earlier building built on the same site in 1858 which had been designed by the famous Scottish architect, David Bryce.

The architectural magnificence of the Grand Hall with its marble colonnades, heraldic stained glass windows, unique and extremely rare Brindley and Foster Organ and its soaring ceiling culminating in an imposing glass dome, will mesmerise and leave all who enter breathless.

Paintings by Raeburn and other famous artists lead the mind and body to the top floor of this imposing building wherein you will find the library and museum. Paintings of Robert Burns’s investiture, George Washington, several Kings, and a signed photograph of US President Truman are on display, along with the Masonic Regalia of the late King George VI and the original apron of Robert Burns, together with many other historical artefacts. A bust of the Earl of Elgin and Kincardine, Past Grand Master Mason and direct descendent of King “Robert the Bruce” is one of many other historical figures sitting proudly in the Grand Hall.
