There are seven specialist science parks in and around Edinburgh, including Edinburgh BioQuarter, the Roslin Institute, Roslin Bio Centre and Pentlands Science Park. They’re home to thousands of scientists, researchers, academics and innovators, and some of the world’s largest commercial life sciences organisations.

GlaxoSmithKline are working with Edinburgh BioQuarter on treatments for acute pancreatitis. Fios Genomics provides bioinformatics data analysis to Pharma, CROs and academia to further drug discovery and development. Molnlycke Healthcare are working with the University of Edinburgh to find ways of tackling superbugs.

Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation creates and develops diagnostic medical imaging systems and comprehensive medical solutions like CT scanners, MRI equipment and information systems for medical institutions. There are dozens of others – almost 15% of Scotland’s entire population of life sciences companies are based in Edinburgh.
