Edinburgh is a stunning city with world-renowned architecture, culture and history. It is also a very green capital city with an abundance of parkland and low pollution levels. Increasingly however there is no denying the challenges of global climate change and the impact it will have on current and future generations. The City of Edinburgh has committed to become carbon neutral by 2030 and to this end is pursuing a three phased plan for delivering an ambitious and innovative citywide approach to sustainability.
Tourism, including business tourism such as conferences and meetings also has a significant role to play here. Many of our hotels, venues and attractions have already embraced this movement by achieving accreditation through the Green Tourism Award Scheme. To recognise the city's dedication to sustainability, we have put together a list of green venues to help you Make it Edinburgh and Make it Green at your next business event.
Over and above this there is no denying the significant impact of delegate travel. For example, a National Association conference with 500 delegates flying from London generates approximately 85 tonnes of carbon emissions. We are keen to raise awareness of this impact, encourage more carbon friendly choices (such as rail travel) and where this is not possible, inspire clients and delegates to offset their carbon footprint through accredited schemes.
